NEW Dunkin' Refreshers

Earlier this summer Dunkin’ Donuts came out with a brand new drink: the Dunkin’ Refreshers. These drinks instantly reminded me of the Refreshers available at Starbucks, but there is one big difference. While the Starbucks Refreshers contain green coffee extract for caffeine, the Dunkin’ Refreshers are made with green tea. Obviously, the inclusion of tea meant I had to try this new drink.

There are two flavors of Dunkin’ Refreshers—Strawberry Dragonfruit and Peach Passionfruit. In addition to green tea and the respective flavored fruit concentrate, these drinks also contain B Vitamins (particularly Vitamins B3, B5, B6, and B12). According to the Dunkin’ news website, there are no artificial colors or flavors. The company claims the Refreshers will give a boost of energy and leave you glowing. Let’s see if that’s true.

Strawberry Dragonfruit

Strawberry is the predominate flavor in the Strawberry Dragonfuit Dunkin’ Refresher, with almost no dragonfruit flavor coming through. The strawberry flavor is not too artificial, but certainly doesn’t taste like real strawberries either. Overall, this drink is very similar to the Stawberry Acai Refresher from Starbucks, which I don’t think was a coincidence.

Peach Passionfruit

The Peach Passionfruit Dunkin’ Refresher is definitely the more unique of the two flavors. The peach and the passionfruit flavors are both present and strong. The drink is fairly sweet, though a little less so than the Strawberry Dragonfruit flavor. A friend of mine described this drink as tasting “like perfume,” and personally I would have to agree. However, my grandma loves this drink and has gotten one of her own nearly every week since we tried it. I generally am not a fan of passionfruit, but if you are you are likely to enjoy this drink.

As far as Dunkin’s claims, I wouldn’t say that was glowing after either of these drinks. However, I did feel very energized and even had trouble sleeping at night after drinking these. The level of caffeine in the Refreshers is less than coffee but more than tea (plus I took advantage of the $2 for a medium promotion even though I normally drink smalls).

Given the popularity of Starbucks Refreshers over the years, I think these new Refreshers were a smart addition to Dunkin’s menu. I enjoy the Strawberry Dragonfruit flavor and would be interested in seeing more flavors in the future.
