Tea Lattes from Peet's Coffee

Peet’s Coffee is not nearly as popular here in the northeast as it is in California and other parts of the country. In fact, there are only two in New York City. Lucky for me, one of them is in a university building and takes my meal plan. Peet’s has a variety of tea drinks—more than most coffee shops. Today, I will be reviewing their classic chai and matcha green tea lattes.

Unfortunately, I was only able to have this drink once before realizing that I am allergic to chai. I was never able to try the iced chai latte, but I tend to prefer hot lattes anyway. Peet’s chai latte has a mild flavor and a hint of spice. It is a good drink to get if you are looking for a classic chai latte.

Matcha Green Tea Latte

The first time I ordered a matcha latte from Peet’s, I asked for almond milk. The drink had a very distinct matcha flavor—it was a little bitter and not sweet at all. It was also not blended well and had lots of clumps at the bottom. It was the same way when I ordered it iced with almond milk (pictured below). I was very confused, because a friend of mine considers this her favorite matcha latte near NYU. Then one day, I ordered an Earl Grey Latte on the campus ordering app. It turns out Peet’s doesn’t sell their earl grey latte anymore, so I just ordered a matcha. They were also out of almond milk, so I settled for soy milk. The drink was so much smoother and sweeter that day, and I finally understood the hype. I immediately added two packets of sugar, expecting the drink to be bitter like the past times, but it definitely only needed one packet, if any. Moral of the story: this is a great latte as long as you don’t order it with almond milk.

All in all, both of these lattes are pretty good drinks for tea lovers, especially from a coffee shop. I’m excited to try the other tea drinks from Peet’s Coffee, like their Tea Fogs.
