REVIEW: Flavored Matcha Lattes from Dunkin' Donuts

Last year, Dunkin released their iced blueberry matcha latte. Though they took the official listing off the menu both on the app and in stores, you can still order a matcha latte with blueberry syrup. In fact, you can order a matcha latte with any of their flavors.

Almost two years ago now, I tried every Dunkin flavor in iced tea—and, as I probably should have expected, it didn’t go that well. But the blueberry matcha latte made me realize I probably should have tried the flavors in matcha lattes, so I did just that (except for hazelnut because I really don’t like the flavor of hazelnut). Honestly, it didn’t go that much better, but read on for my thoughts.

Raspberry Matcha Latte

I started off with raspberry syrup in my matcha latte because I feel like raspberry and green tea and always a solid combo. This was no exception, though I will say the flavor was pretty light. I’m not sure if that’s because I ordered a small and they gave me a medium and maybe didn’t adjust the amount of syrup, or if the flavor itself is just not very strong. Either way, I highly recommend trying a raspberry matcha latte.

Coconut Matcha Latte

Coconut is never my favorite flavor, but objectively, this was a good matcha latte. The coconut flavor is very strong, but it works well with matcha. The coconut flavor is (supposedly) unsweetened, but Dunkin’s matcha mix is sweetened, so it balances it out nicely.

Vanilla Matcha Latte

The first time I ever had matcha, it was a vanilla matcha latte from Argo Tea. And Vanilla Matcha is probably my favorite flavored matcha from DavidsTea. But Dunkin’s matcha latte with vanilla was a let down for me. It was very artificial tasting and the syrup just didn’t blend well with the matcha latte. This was maybe the most disappointing flavor just because I had such high hopes, and I personally wouldn’t recommend it.

French Vanilla Matcha Latte

After Dunkin’s vanilla matcha latte, I was both nervous to try the sweetened French vanilla (because I thought it wouldn’t taste good) and intrigued (because I thought maybe they had given me French vanilla the first time and that would explain the artificial flavor). This was a little sweeter than the vanilla matcha latte (so they definitely gave me the correct order the first time, since that one is unsweetened) but otherwise it was pretty similar. I liked the French vanilla matcha latte a little better than the regular vanilla latte, but I wouldn’t order it again.

Caramel Matcha Latte

I was hoping the caramel matcha latte would be a fun, sweet, and yummy drink, but it ended up just being kind of meh. It was definitely sweet, but it didn’t blend that well. However, since trying this matcha latte from Dunkin’ Donuts, I have had DavidsTea salted caramel matcha as both a hot and iced latte, and I much prefer it hot. So maybe Dunkin is similar and I just need to try the caramel in a hot matcha latte?

Toasted Almond Matcha Latte

I forgot to taste a picture of this matcha latte, probably because it was the most disappointing of them all. It didn’t blend well and was very artificial tasting. Oddly enough, I preferred this flavor in a regular iced tea, though ordering it usually results in some confusion from the cashier.

Seasonal Flavors

Over the last couple of months, I have tried quite a few seasonal flavors in Dunkin’s matcha latte, including the famous butter pecan in the summer and pumpkin spice for fall. Though I’ve had varied opinions of the different flavors, they’ve all been decent in flavor and fun ways to experience the seasonal options as a tea drinker. I’m planning on doing separate blog posts for each season over the next year, so definitely check back for more info!

So, What’s the Tea?

Overall, the results were surprisingly similar to that of regular iced tea. Personally, I would go for a raspberry or blueberry matcha latte again, but that’s about it. The coconut is also good if you like coconut flavors. However, I only tried all of these flavors in iced matcha lattes. As I noted earlier, I now think the caramel would be better in a hot matcha latte, so maybe the vanilla flavors or even the toasted almond would be better that way too. If you try any flavored matcha lattes from Dunkin, be sure to let me know what you think!
