Alice’s Tea Cup Review

I have wanted to try Alice’s Tea Cup for at least the four years I have been living in New York City for school. Right before I left, I finally made it to the Chapter II location to give it a try. I had such a nice little lunch at this tea room, so I wanted to share my experience.

My Meal

I ordered The Nibble, which is tea for one and cost $36. It came with unlimited tea, choice of one scone with tea and preserves, choice of one sandwich, and assorted mini cookies.

The tea menu is extensive and so many of their blends sounded delicious, but I kept it simple with Alice’s Tea—their signature blend of Indian black tea, Japanese green tea, vanilla, and rose petals. A single pot had about five cups of tea which was more than enough for me personally. For my scone, I picked the mixed berry flavor, which I believe was one of the daily specials. The jam it came with seemed to be strawberry, and the cream was like a slightly thicker whipped cream. Wanting to try as much tea as possible, I ordered the tea-egg salad sandwich. I was surprised that it came with a full sized sandwich and a mixed green salad with the ginger-soy house dressing. I did not have a choice of cookies, but the two chocolate chip and two oatmeal raisin is exactly what I would have picked anyway.

Everything I had was absolutely delicious. I especially loved the scone, though it was huge, and the tea. I couldn’t really tell that the eggs in the egg salad had been tea-infused, but it was delicious anyway. I ended up taking the cookies home because I was so full, and they were still yummy and relatively soft later that day.

Theming

A wall of tea canisters with an image of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland above the top shelf. The wall is in an alcove with a sign on top that says “Curiouser and curiouser !”

I still wasn’t comfortable eating inside due to the COVID-19 pandemic when I visited Alice’s Tea Cup, but I did pop inside for a few minutes to look around. There are lots of hints of the Alice in Wonderland theme without being too kitschy or cheesy. While I think kids would enjoy visiting, it was definitely a more sophisticated and less childish take on the theme.

so, What’s The Tea?

If you’re a tea lover (or even just an Alice and Wonderland lover) who lives in or is visiting New York City, I highly recommend visiting Alice’s Tea Cup. My only regret is waiting so long to try this tea room. Unfortunately I didn’t live close enough to make it a regular thing (I could so see myself studying there with a pot of tea and some scones if I did), but I definitely could have made many more trips. Learn from my mistake and don’t sleep on Alice’s Tea Cup like I did if you’re in the area.
